There's a book by Raymond Smullyan, Forever Undecided: A Puzzle Guide to Godel thatcould be mentioned in the article. Unclassified Metadiscussion. This material is in this lump because I was getting tired and the main point is to break this long discussion up into parts so that it can be refined further. --Orcmid , 20 Mar (UTC). I remembered writing a post here about the book (it turned out to be from ) when I came upon a new book by Hofstadter titled I Am a Strange Loop. That "strange loop" was something he originally proposed in the book. This post is a rewrite and update on that older post. The earlier book is a meditation on human thought and creativity.

Gödel is best remembered for his two incompleteness theorems, published in While working on mathematical logic, he discovered that there were some inherent limitations in every formal axiomatic system containing basic arithmetic. In Kurt Gödel published his fundamental paper, "On Formally Godel Remembered book Propositions of Principia Mathematica and Related Systems." This revolutionary paper challenged certain basic assumptions underlying much research in mathematics and logic/5.

Hofstadter's Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid is still something of a marvel. Besides being a profound and entertaining meditation on human thought and creativity, this book looks at the surprising points of contact between the music of Bach, the artwork of Escher, and the mathematics of Gödel/5().

Kurt Friedrich Gödel (b. d. ) was one of the principal founders of the modern, metamathematical era in mathematical logic.

He is widely known for his Incompleteness Theorems, which are among the handful of landmark theorems in twentieth century mathematics, but his work touched every field of mathematical logic, if it was not in most cases their original stimulus.

Kurt Godel was the most outstanding logician of the twentieth century, famous for his work on the completeness of logic, the incompleteness of number theory, and the consistency of the axiom of choice and the continuum hypothesis. Gödel Remembered Salzburg. I don’t know if you’ve remembered to look into it, but I greatly suggest Hagakure (The Book of the Samuri) by Yamamoto Tsunetomo.

The British mathematician Sir Andrew Wiles (born ) is best known for proving Fermat’s Last Theorem, which, until then, was one of the most famous unsolved problems in mathematics. InPierre de Fermat, wrote in the margin of a textbook that he had a wonderful proof that the equation a n + b n = c n has no integer solutions for n > 2.

Unfortunately, no one was able to find a proof.Spouse/Ex: Adele Nimbursky Porkert (m. ) Early Life. An Austrian-born mathematician, logician, and philosopher who obtained what may be the most important mathematical result of the 20th century, Kurt Gödel was born Apin Brünn, Austria-Hungary (now Brno, Czech Republic) into the German family of Rudolf Gödel (), the manager of a textile factory, and Marianne.

Godel, Escher, Bach is a big book, over pages. And according to its author, most people who love the book missed its main point. I was one of them. Apparently, Hofstadter wrote the book to explain how complex behavior such as cognition and consciousness emerges from the essential complexity of a system.
